Correct, the * [[link]] syntax is processed as a block of lines all beginning with the bullet and a space. If there are extra line returns in there, you break the blocks and get several smaller lists. I don't know an easy way to solve that problem, except to use conditionals carefully to maintain that rule, and track your line breaks.. Still you now have at least two solutions that work...
