Is this in a form?  Could you show the whole form? Session vars are
invisible by design. You may need a [text query] field. Also somewhere
on the page there needs to be [results] markup to show the results.
Maybe some other things are missing also.

If I can see more of the form I may be able to help you debug Matt.
