I'm not sure what is going on. It seems to be working on my site. I've been looking into this for a good while, and everything seems to be working properly...
You might double check that you have indexing: active in your site.config page. That is what turns it on. Currently the default is set to on. I also just reset the core code to have the default to active as well, just in case someone deletes that setting. But currently it does have to be in site.config to be enabled. Does it never work? Only in certain cases?
