**APOLOGIES for cross posting for those people who share groups with me! This month I read several authors for the first time: TC Boyle, Sara Gruen, Uzodinma Iweala, Kiran Desai, Harper Lee, Leila Aboulela, and David Mitchell. All wonderful writers! I read 8 fiction books and 1 memoir. My average rating was a 4.25 out of 5. My favorite read of the month was To Kill A Mockingbird, followed closely by Black Swan Green and Travels with Charley. My least favorite read was The Double Bind. ****************************************************************************** ********************************************* 1. Water for Elephants, by Sara Gruen Rated: 4/5 A fun read. Beasts of No Nation, by Uzodinma Iweala Rated 3.75/5 A stunning, devastating novel about a child soldier in Africa. This book will not appeal to all readers. The violence and brutality, along with the unique voice of the child narrator makes this a demanding, difficult read. The Double Bind, by Chris Bohjalian Rated: 2.75/5 Not Bohjalian's best. A disappointment.
