Brilliant idea - I might bury mine on the beach! I can imagine a child digging it up while sandcastling - and finding hidden treasure. Let me know the date. G'dday. Hadda thought. One of the places I regularly chuck books into the wild, is a coffee shop near the library where I do my internetting. I register and make release notes, then I go and have coffee, leaving the book behind. It's become a standing joke. A large part of their business is devoted to making and selling biscuits (I haven't been culturally invaded by America, they're not "cookies", regardless of the franchise name), and value-adding by putting parcels of bisquits into ornamental jars, pitchers, cups etc. they also have a nice range of painted old-fashioend biscuit tins ot the round metal variety. I was looking at some of these the other day, and it occurred to me that they'd be com-peltely watertight and soiltight. So they'd be a good thing (and a good size) for making "time capsules", you know, bundling up mementoes of people, tiomes, places etc. And you could add it one or two bookcrossed books, too, to be dug up by whoever! I'm seriously thinking of making up a time capsule, even though it is a kid-thing and I'm rotting away at nearly 47, and throwing in one or two registered books that I wouldn't expect to be logged as "caught" for some time. In my case, I wouldn't necessarily dig it up myself - I'd leave it under the foundations of my slightly raised house, which I know will be bulldozed and built over when I move out, for demolition people, builders, or even just local kids to find. I'm thinking of putting in some original miniature art, some pickled eggs (can last for centuries), some photos as well, so it'll be a very pecular gift from me to the future. Should we make a day when whoever likes the idea will also bury or hide a time capsule with a book in it?
