Re changes on BookCrossing: there were some pretty noticeable changes implemented last night, including lots of new features - some free to all, some members-plus-only - and a few restrictions on existing features, namely some monthly limits on forum posts and PMs, and a size limit on extended-profiles. The outcry against the restrictions was, to say the least, extreme, and the management promptly ordered those rolled back; it took a little while, but as of about mid- afternoon (east-coast/US) the profile information was back to normal, and I think the limits on forum posts/PMs for non-winged members were either expanded considerably or removed altogether.
The site does need revenue, and Scott (aka redsoxbookguy, the CEO) made that clear in his Announcements-forum messages, but he also admitted that some of the changes - and the lack of advance notice about the scope of those changes - might have been a mistake. So not to worry; you should be able to edit profiles and do all your other BookCrossing activities without losing anything! If you check the "articles" page (there's a link to it on the "news & articles" page under the "Information" tab on the BC site), there's a new article describing most of the new features, which include all sorts of goodies, from the built-in wishlist to the new release-note page to assorted new profile options. Some of the features are members-plus only, but quite a few are free, so it's certainly not the case that basic members can't do anything.
