Because....when you have severe arthritis and your hands get so swollen and sore at times that you can't hold a book open to read it. I've had mine for over a year now and I love it! It enables me to continue reading as much as I like and with no discomfort or pain, plus it's the best thing ever for reading in bed. I recycled my books, now I just collect them on my Kindle, and that TBR pile gets pretty big too!
