Once upon a time, in my first full time job, I wrote such a layout algorithm for formatting pages to fax... I *really* don't want to repeat that experience ;-) Automatic column flowing is just not something that ever comes out well. There's way too much context humans put into play when doing such layouts that make a machine approximation pale in comparison.
