Yup, I think the answer is leaning toward "total hell" since it's 8
hours by bus.  After a quick look, it seems to me the right way to get to
Montreal is by plane or car: 

train: 10+ hours 
bus: 8 hours
car: 6 hours
plane: 4 hours  (usair has cheap fares to Montreal right now- $160
                 round-trip. but it's only for travel through May.)

A carpool, perhaps?
