as many of you know, damian conway is visiting boston (for the first
time!) next month. he will be attending our next social event and also
giving a free talk at our next tech meeting. but i have been getting
queries about those events and i want to set some myths/facts straight.
MYTH: this event was held last week. (really, some folks don't know the
difference between june and july :-)
FACT: the social event is on sunday july 8th at 3pm.
MYTH: it is being held in a castle in europe
FACT: i wish. it will be held in the yard at my domicile in arlington.

MYTH: the social event is by invitation only
FACT: it is open to all boston perl mongers. even out of town mongers
are welcome.
MYTH: only perl mongers are allowed
FACT: this is open to your entire family (excluding your really annoying
brother-in-law).
MYTH: you must rsvp in advance to get in
FACT: drop ins are welcome. the rsvp is just so i can get a decent
estimate on the food and drink needs. the food has to be ordered
in advance so an estimated head count is desirable
MYTH: i have to bring food or drink
FACT: this event is being paid for by damian's advanced object oriented
perl class. there is no requirements for anyone to bring anything
MYTH: i am not allowed to bring anything.
FACT: au contraire! you can bring something special or simple to grill,
more libations of your choice and desserts (which are not being provided
so that is a good thing to bring). if you have special dietary needs,
let me know and i will try to help you out.
MYTH: this will be boring burgers and dogs
FACT: how does marinated lamb cubes, chicken sausage (many different
flavors), pesto pasta salad, fruit salad, etc sound? and i am making the
lamb marinade from herbs grown in the yard where we will party.
MYTH: bud and miller lite for all
FACT: boston.pm is known for it high quality beer standards.if you want to
suggest which beer to have, let me know. in fact, if anyone wants to
bring the main beer supply, its purchase can be covered for you. contact
me about that.
MYTH: there a wireless net in my house
FACT: no. but if you want to set one up ... . i do have a NAT net and we
could run an ethernet down to the yard and setup a hub ...
is it worth it? does anyone care?
MYTH: damian will be giving a talk there
FACT: no, it is a party. his talk will be the next night, monday, july
9th. but he will be at the party and might even talk to you. :) more
info on his free talk is forthcoming from ronald.
MYTH: there is a fee for his talk
FACT: the talk to boston.pm is free and open to all. the fee is for his
class which he is teaching on july 10-11.
MYTH: no one could possibly be as creative and productive as this
'damian' fellow.
FACT: he really does exist. come to one of the two events and meet
him. rather a nice guy too. :)
