they are as tech as you want them to be. the main difference between
them and the tech meeting is noise and a single speaker. you can talk as
much perl as you want with anyone who you can grab and will listen to
you. given the beer and crowd it can be a challenge. some of the parties
at homes are more amenable to that. at tech meetings there is usually
time before and afterwards to mingle and schmooze perl with many
attendees. 

in general you should post separate emails for each of your
questions. having one thread covering social meetings AND your script
issues will be odd and confusing. also why was this cc'ed to the wwwac
list? what is that?

as for your remote process kill problem, is this a one shot operation or
do you want to have continuous access to the process list? do you have
permission to kill them? what login method do you want to use or will
you want a client/server approach? to many ways to do that. my choice
(of course) would be a stem solution but that may be too much for such a
narrow task.
