5.004 is considered broken with respect to 5.005. :) that is a very old
perl. you should probably jump all the way to 5.6.1 but that will
require a fresh install of any XS modules. and note that 5.8 is just
around the proverbial corner.

but in general i wouldn't expect any modules to break with the newer
perl but installing fresh ones anyway will probably be best.
