I was surprised to see Larry Wall's name appear - in of all places - a marketing book (the horror :-) ). Granted, "Crossing the Chasm," is about marketing technology products, and Larry was mentioned among a list of famous "innovators" - the first people to adopt new technology. Here's the paragraph in which his name appears (page 31):

Sometimes a technology enthusiast becomes famous - usually as the
inventor of a lucrative product. In the world of PCs, Bill Gates
started business life this way, but he may have forfeited his status
somewhat as he became more Machiavellian. Mark Andressen, on the
other hand, has tried to stay more in role, although he too is
looking more and more corporate. That could not be said, on the
other hand, of such Internet founding stalwarts as *Larry Wall* the
inventor of Perl, Apache cofounder Brian Behlendorf, or Linux
  creator Linus Torvolds.

OK, so "Internet founding" isn't quite right, unless you stretch the definition to mean "help facilitate the popularization of the web," but I give the author points for knowing both Larry and Brian Behlendorf, otherwise obscure people to business types.
