Betsey >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2/6/2006 2:16:11 PM >>> It is with mixed feelings that I write to you (although I know you have already heard!) to let you know that I will be leaving BCAP at the end of February to begin a new job as Boulder County's Director of Community Services. As you know, I began at BCAP almost eighteen years ago. We had only one paid staff person at that time and it was wonderful to be able to serve BCAP in a variety of roles. I started as a resource counselor (it was 3 months before I got a "real" phone call * a question about AIDS!) and soon served in other important volunteer roles * providing support groups for clients, training new volunteers, and being the volunteer coordinator (as a volunteer!). BCAP became an important part of my life, and when the job of case manager became open (the second case manager in BCAP's history) I resigned my position as therapist/case manager at the Mental Health Center of Boulder County to take this opportunity. That was 1991 * and we were in the thick of the worst days, when many of our beloved friends and clients died shortly after their diagnosis of AIDS. I learned a lot during that time. The most important thing that I learned was of the healing power of community and the importance of love and laughter. We quickly learned to laugh and cry at the same time and to never take "no" for an answer. We believed that we could accomplish the impossible * and we did. You all have been a part of an important part of my growth and development in the nonprofit sector. I have appreciated your support of me and the partnerships we have established that allow us to provide services more efficiently and effectively. I am especially proud of the many accomplishments of H.S.A. over the years and we have built great momentum that will serve our communities as we face more difficult challenges ahead. This new position is a wonderful opportunity for me and one in which I can bring my passion and commitment to supporting those who are often overlooked in our community have access and opportunities for a better quality of life. And I look forward to working with you all in my new role with the County - we have great work to accomplish together! H.S.A. will be meeting on Monday, February 13th with our previously stated agenda item - the anti-immigrant initiatives. We'll need to add H.S.A. officers to the agenda once again as well. I look forward to seeing you at BCAP's community open house on Friday, February 24th, from 4-7pm that will acknowledge my leave-taking so we can exchange memories and hugs! Tucker (my dog) has decided he wants to stay on at BCAP, so you can continue to give him pats on the belly when you come by and have business at BCAP.
