Unfortunately, I had another meeting come up this afternoon that I can’t get out of – I will be at the advocacy meeting on Wednesday.   A few items to report on: I followed up with the Chamber on the immigration survey they sent out to their members. I spoke with Dan Powers who told me a few interesting things came out of the survey. For one, they had a very high response rate – which would indicate the importance of the issue to a lot of their members. He also said that responses ranged so widely the Chamber does not anticipate taking any public stances on legislation. He was surprised that very few members expressed much concern around the impact the amendment would have on their businesses, but many more made comments from a personal/emotional standpoint. Dan said these did not overwhelmingly come down on one “side” or another. He urged me to follow up with Susan Graf if I sought a more “official” statement from the Chamber. I haven’t done so yet. James Johnson from Keep Colorado Safe presented an update at another meeting last week. He is working with a few statewide groups: Grassroots Movement for Immigrant Justice, Colorado Immigrants Rights Coalition, and others. They are in the process of hiring a consultant to develop messaging to be disseminated statewide. They hope to have materials by summer (?) – and I expressed our interest in using consistent messages here in Boulder County.   I think that’s it for now.
