Title: Counting Votes

Dear Election Review Committee,

I believe the 2004 elections were some of the most important in our country’s history. I worked as a volunteer on election day to help get out the vote.

It was very disappointing, then, to see Boulder’s returns delayed, and delayed, and delayed. Our county’s voice was silent as the rest of the state spoke out in national media coverage, in spite of Boulder’s incredibly high rate of voter turnout.

I feel discouraged and disempowered by the new voting system. I don’t trust the proprietary software and I think the delays in getting the results are inexcusable, suspicious, and embarrassing.

I urge you to require open, publicly verifiable software, or to count the vote by hand. Please put me on your list as a volunteer for a hand count if needed.
