Calming anger in teens

An Australian researcher says teaching the principles of martial arts to
teenage boys may help them manage their anger.

Some 90 per cent of juvenile offenders were male and many of them school
drop-outs from single-parent families headed by women, said Paul Edwards a
clinical nurse specialising in child and adolescent mental health at the
Southern Cross University.

He will teach young men how to manage emotions, increase their ability to
think before they act and to improve self-esteem.

His program is based on the Rock and Water program developed in the
Netherlands after a series of murders by teen gangs.
