Hello Diane: The sound recording feature is only limited by disk size. You can save your files to any directory or any drive that the MPower will support. The files are recorded in WAV format. This means that they can be played back on any Windows PC or supported device. The bad news is that they do take up quite a bit of disk space. To give you some idea, a 50 minute lecture would take up about 60 mb of storage room. Unfortunately, the RECORDING of mp3's is not supported yet, but, we're hoping.
