The translation utility is already in your braille note. Here are the steps
to export files:
1. Go to the file manager menu.
2. Press t to get to the translation menu.
3. Press e to get to the export menu.
4. You will be prompted for the drive the files are on.
5. After you have indicated the drive, you will be prompted for the folder
name.
6. After that, you will be prompted for the filename. At this point, you
will need to press read with x I don't know the BT command, until "all
files" appears on the BN.
7. Press the star sign, (shift 8 on a QT) to indicate you want all the
files in the directory to be exported. You can also use the star followed
by a common denominator in the file name or the common denominator followed
by star and this will indicate specific files.
8. At the "Export to which device" prompt, choose file, if you plan to put
the files on a CF card or serial port, if you plan to transfer the files
using a serial cable between the BN and the PC.
9. Next, you are asked for the file type. You can cycle through the list
until you come to the file type you want to export the files to. The
choices are, ASCII text, Plain Braille, Microsoft Word, Rich Text Format,
WordPerfect 5.1 plus older versions of Keysoft braille and text.
10. Once you've chose the file type, your files will automatically be named
with the original name and the proper extension and exported.
I try to keep computer-friendly backup copies of my BN files and put them in
my PC. I also have copies of files I can transfer from the PC to the BN
using a CF card. This has come in handy when I've had to do a complete
system restore.

Hi. I haven't been on the list for a long while, so this may have been
answered. I have many critical documents stored on compact flash cards,
written by my BrailleNote. These include bank records, info about
clients, tax info, etc. It's in .kwb and .kwt files-- Keysoft's word
processor's format. Now, when my BN is in for repair, a new battery, or
whatever, I would dearly love to access these files on my computer with
screen reader and Braille embosser.
My questions are: has anyone written a piece of software for the pc, which
would translate .kwt files into .txt and .kwb files into .brf files? If
not, will Humanware release the specs on its word processor, or maybe
provide a Keysoft function library, so that a user could write his own
conversion software? It's ridiculous to be sending .kwt files to notepad,
and then trying to edit out all the formatting stuff. How can I solve
this problem? You guys could even protect your proprietary Keysoft. Just
give us the .dll files and the relevant function calls.
