Dear Caitlin,
Yes, I must do all my printing with my PC.
But I can't _emboss with my Mpower.

Hi Terri,
If all else fails, you can always put your files into .txt and transfer
them to yoru computer via ActiveSync or a storage card. You probably do
this already, but that's what I would do if my printer stopped working
with the BN. Ironially, my printer works better with my BN than it does
with my computer. For some reason it doesn't like my comptuer much, but
loves the BN. Except for it doesn't print French accents because it's an
Epson and is weird that way. Oh well. Grin.

The BN is very far behind regarding printers. I know that many printers,
like mine, require WindowS software. They are what is called "plug and
play." If this is a trend for the future, I wonder what HumanWare will
do so BN users can use printers.
The embosser issue must also be rectified. The BN Mp doesn't work with
the "garden variety" USB to parallel converters and the one HumanWare
sells is far too costly! Surely, something should be done so that the
"garden variety" converters will work.
I hope the infrared to parallel converter I have ordered will work with
my Index Everest-D and my BNMP.

Subject: [Braillenote] update on printing and the mpower
Hi, List,
Well, I've given up, for the time being, trying to cable the mPower to
my Epson LX 300. I took the mPower to the computer store where they
have been so kindly attempting to connect me, and tried an HP printer,
model number 3940. This is a fairly new model. The mPower recognized
there was a printer because it said printer ready, or printer removed if
it was turned off. All settings were good to go, but the printer did
not print.
They had an HP 970 CSE printer which they used there at the store. This
is an older model. We connected it and it worked just so slick! Got a
nicely printed recipe for garbanzo bean soup!
In the KeySoft folder for printers, the file of info for HP printers
indicated that it was adapted 1 December 1998 for the Braille Companion.
I tend to think that this could definitely be the problem!
After we return from our Christmas trip back to Iowa this coming week,
we will try looking at printers in other stores. It's very time
consuming and frustrating, needless to say!
Happy holidays!
Kathy
