I wouldn't buy a laptop for these reasons: (1) You still need to use a
screenreader and (2) you have to either buy an external keypad or use the
screenreader's laptop layout. WE has such a layout, don't know about the
shark. (3) Battery life is terrible. (4) You'd have to use an external
braille display if you prefer reading in braille. (5) If you are an
extremely heavy braille user and you want to read and write in braille, then
you would need to purchase Duxbury or another software program. (6) Think
of all the stuff you'd have to lug around: laptop, keyboard, braille
display, printer, embosser, cables, CF cards, battery charger, auxiliary
battery.
If you can afford it, I would recommend buying a notetaker and a DESKTOP.
Desktops are much cheaper, and if your budget is tight, you can probably
find a good used one. And, as far as a notetaker goes, I'd choose the MP
transplant. It costs much less than a brand new MP or BS.
Besides, editing with KeyWord is so much easier than using Word, (yuck) or
WP or any Windows word processor or text editor.

Hi,
I have a laptop and it boots up within fifteen seconds! It has a braille
display connected to it. So it all depends on what one wants. This laptop
runs win98, but I've seen one that runs winxp that's just like mine. I've
been considering that option as well as my present laptop runs another
device.

Hi,
I wouldn't buy a $500 laptop because of the compromises at that price
point.
The two negatives of a laptop are its size and lack of quick access and
smooth
working with Braille. I would recommend having both if possible. I Can't
run
k1000 on my Braille Note, but I love Braille for reading, especially on
the go
and the ease of taking lots of Braille material along with me. Also, I'd
rather edit in Braille whenever possible. That is because Braille is
second
nature to me.
