I've just created an interesting way of using the Media Player on my mPower.

I've just paid for a shareware program called I2Workout that runs on my PC.
Basically, it creates workouts that you can run directly from the PC to control
IFIT compatible
exercise equipment, or you can save the .wav or .mp3 file to a CD or put it on
an MP3 player and run the equipment from a CD player or MP3 player. The
program creates both voice prompts for a user to follow if they are controlling
the equipment manually, and it also adds the electronic signals if the
equipment is IFIT compatible so that the equipment changes automatically.
Incidentally, you can also add playlists and stuff to have a workout with music
and prompts. It is for treadmills, bikes, ellipticals, and anything else that
is IFIT compatible. We have a treadmill.

I haven't tried adding music to my workout files yet. Right now it is a spoken
prompt at the beginning of each time segment, and then a voice cue of what the
incline and speed is changing to. It's nice because I can now know for sure
what the machine settings are and I don't have to fumble around when I'm tired
trying to adjust the treadmill during the workout. And I've never been able to
check my watch on the treadmill, so this is a great way to keep track of
workout time.

For this setup, you connect a stereo audio cable to the headphone jack on the
mPower and to the input jack on the exercise equipment. If you want to hear
the spoken prompts of the workout, you need to use a Y splitter and also
connect in a small pair of speakers. I haven't done that, but I plan to buy
speakers this weekend. If you would be controlling your equipment manually,
then the normal speaker output of the mPower is fine.

If your exercise equipment isn't IFIT compatible, you can use this program to
create workouts that will verbally prompt you to change your exercise machine
settings at specific times that you define. So, it's also kind of like a timer
and coach for a workout.

I know this has rambled on about a PC program a bit, but I now have workout
programs on my mPower. Just another kind of mp3 file that is not leisure
focused.

If anyone wants information about the I2Workout program, contact me off list.
I think it's a pretty cool way to use the Media Player.
