Hi there!
How do you get exact audio and how accessible is it for a blind person?
Write to me off list if that seems best so as not to get too much off
topic.
Thanks.
Richard

CDex is a CD ripper, and only interfaces with the MP3 encoder for
ocnvenience. WinLAME is the program that's, er, programmed with the
primary
intention of encoding fiels to mp3. (CDex isn't even that good a CD
ripper;
Exact Audio Copy is the best product I have ever seen in this field and
it's
free.)

This is Joseph. There is a program out there called CDEx. It can
convert
between mp3 and .wav files. So, for example, if you wisi to convert a
note
that has been recorded on the BN to an mp3 file, you can simply transfer
the
file to a computer and convert it that way. Recording software that
runs
on
the computer these days allows you to convert between multiple file
formats.

The main issue is one of licensing. Since the BN is a commercial
product,
they'd have to license rights to use the encoder. Why do that, when you
can
record in WAV and compress it to MP3 on a computer for free? The BN is a
notetaker, not a recording studio. The recording feature is meant for
taking
notes. I wish people would keep things in scope.

Hi folks,
It has been suggested that recording to mp3 or encoding on the fly is
not possible, or that conversion from .wav to .mp3 would be better.
Assuming that you accept the limitations that come with mp3 encoding,
encoding on the fly isn't a problem at all. I own a tiny Iriver mp3
player which records mp3 files on the fly. It's probably got one tenth
or less the power of the BN and it runs on one AA battery. So encoding
on the fly isn't a problem.
I have heard that this capability may come when DAISY support is
implemented. Get out your check books. :-)

Au,
That does make sense. Maybe it's much better to stick with wav.

It isnt' really possible to record in mp3, as you would be
compressing on
the fly as it were. What would be nice is a wav to mp3 converter,
but on the
other hand it would keep needing to be updated because the codecs
are
constantly being worked on, and then you'd get into licensing
costs for it,
not to mention that then people will be clammering for AAC and OG
support
which all have the same inherrant problems as MP3, etc.

I'd love to be able to record in mp3. I also think it would be
nice to
have a program that could zip and unzip things. I'm not sure if
that's
possible, but as I don't use a pc, it would be nice.

hi fellow braillenote fans. I was on the phone with Dean Jackson
the other
day and was extolling the virtues of adding a financial
transaction
component to keysoft.
Now is the time we should submit our desires for such a program,
just a
simple checkbook utility like charles crawford's talking
checkbook program.
So, I am officially casting my vote for our illustrious marketing
manager's
ears, OK MOSEN!
