This is Joseph. I'll try to answer both your posts. Yes, you can write on it, store on it, just like CompactFlash cards. No, the drive does not have battery. It is a laptop hard drive with an enclosure on top. The adapter just provides extra power. The drive itself receives power from the cable that is supplied (you connect the drive onto your mPower and your Power provides the power.) I hope this information may help you.
