But that way I will be cluttering the unit with connections which I might be
using only once, like airport connection.
Is there any way to delete those connections which you will not use anymore?

It is possible, but this will cause confusion. First, it is possible that
you might have some settings that are wrong, and second, you won't be able
to tell which network that you are "really" connecting to.
