Jonathan,
Because I do understand your reason for it working as it does, I wouldn't
personally want to alter this.
Perhaps a sentence of clarification in the manual would help others to
understand why the beep is there during the first press. <Smile>

Hi Carol,
We are always open to suggestions for improvement. How do you think they
should work, bearing in mind that you need to be able to use N2 and N5 to
read the function of other keys.
Best regards

Jonathan,
I understand totally where you're coming from, but do think it appears
rather odd that you press the N5 twice to get a response but the N2 only
once. You see, there's no visible cursor at that point which indicates
what's happening.
I take your point, though, as I'm sure others do, that this is the way it
works. <Smile>

Hi Carol,
Unless I'm missing something, the BACK key (N2 by default) is doing what
I
would expect in Keyboard Learn mode. If the first display-width of a
key's description is being displayed and I press BACK, the description
of
the BACK key is displayed. However, if I have pressed ADVANCE to
display
the second or subsequent display-widths, then BACK moves the display
back
a display-width at a time until it reaches the beginning of the
description after which it displays its own description.
Best regards
Jonathan

Re: [Braillenote] KeySoft 7.2 Build 47 Maintenance Release
Hi Jonathan,
I'd like just to bring your attention to one point, please.
I took a look at Richard's post yesterday and went through the various
errors he had listed. . . ..
I notice that, with regard to Keyboard Learn, whilst his observations
are
correct and I'm sure you know what you're saying too <Smile> it is also
true
that if you take the reverse key stroke (N2 by default) and work your
way
backwards then this in fact works as you'd expect. I'm sure there's a
good
reason for this - and you don't have to explain - but it does tend to
appear
at least as a bug.
I hope you understand what I'm saying here. I'm not finding it easy to
explain at 5 AM UK time after a sleepless night but I can try again if
needed.

Hi Richard,
In answer to your points:
1. Pressing the ADVANCE or PREVIOUS thumb-keys will clear the time
from
the Braille display without putting any characters anywhere. BACKSPACE
with ENTER is the command to cut off speech. While in previous version
it
also cleared any messages it meant there wasn't a way to read a long
detailed message, e.g. the Next Appointment information, in Braille
without the speech distracting you.
2. In Keyboard Learn Mode if all of the description of a key's
function
fits on the Braille display, then the ADVANCE key is not required to
advance the display through the desription and will display its
function
on the first press. If a desription takes more than one display width,
then it may take several presses of ADVANCE to advance the display
through
the description before ADVANCE can display its own function. If it
didn't
do this, then you would never be able to read descriptions longer than
one
display width in Braille because as soon as you pressed ADVANCE the
previous description would be replaced by the description of the
ADVANCE
key.
3. N1 and N4 beep because they have no universal function. Try them
in
Key Announce mode in KeyWord.
4. Yes, we are aware of problems with some Daisy books, this is
mentioned
under know issues on the 7.2 build 47 web site.
5. ENTER with I is the universal command for the Insert Menu. However,
there is an exception when entering a search string in the word
processor
or book reader it is used to find an indent. It is not the command to
indent text, you do that with the tab command or through the Layout
List.
6. Not sure why it defaults to computer Braille when using the save
command. You can change to grade 2 using BACKSPACE with B or through
the
"Grade of Braille for keyboard entry" option in the Options Menu. Have
added this to our bug list.
7. When detaching a file, you get the prompt, "... Detach as a KeyWord
document?". If you use the help command at this point, there are 3
options: "To have the file converted to a KeyWord Text Document, press
'Y'. To leave the attachment as a Microsoft Word file, press 'N'. To
have the file converted to a KeyWord Braille Document, press 'B'.". The
straight 'Yes' option saves the file as a text document because that
leaves the textual content as-is and is the safest option if you are
not
sure of the content. However, if you want it saved as a Braille
document,
select the 'B' option.
Hope the above helps.
Best regards

RE: [Braillenote] KeySoft 7.2 Build 47 Maintenance Release
Bugs still in KeySoft 7.2 build 47 on the PK at least.
If the braille message display is set to zero, and you check the time
with
enter plus t, you can not clear the time with backspace plus enter; you
have
to hit a key that puts a character in your document or hit the joystick
on
a
PK. Prior to KeySoft 7.2 backspace plus enter cleared the time.
In keyboard learn mode when you press the advance key, (n 5) you have
to
hit
it twice before it speaks its function.
Also in keyboard learn mode, n 1 and n 4 just beep.
How about making the joystick scroll the display one width left or
right?
You are also aware of the buggy behavior in the book reader with DAISY
books.
In particular, is there any way to fix it so one can read the Sunday
New
York Times. Right now, it always locks up the PK. I just tried it
with
Yesterday's New York Times from Bookshare.
Enter with i brings up the Insert Menu. What happened to the Indent
command?
Why, when in Keyword, with the pk set to grade 2 for reading and
keyboard,
when I hit chord-s to save the file does it say, "computer braille is
required;" when I can use grade 2 if I create a file from the Keyword
menu?
Also, why when I save a Word attachment from an e-mail, and I select
Keyword
as the file type, does it save it as a text file and will not allow me
to
edit the braille grade?

Subject: [Braillenote] KeySoft 7.2 Build 47 Maintenance Release
KeySoft 7.2 build 47 maintenance release is now available from the
following website:
http://www.humanware.com/Resources/downloads/KeySoft7_2_b47.asp
This software should only be installed if you are experiencing one of
the
problems listed in the Fixed Issues section (see below), or you have
purchased the Concise Oxford Dictionary and Thesaurus for KeySoft.
If you are upgrading from 7.2 build 43 to 7.2 build 47, you will not
require a new product key, as 7.2 build 47 will work with your existing
7.2
product key.
Fixed Issues:
In KeyBook, pressing SPACE to stop reading leaves you at your current
position rather than returning you to the position where you started
reading.
When a Daisy book is re-opened the cursor is returned to its previous
position.
Daisy speech rate is now remembered between opening books.
You can now open Bookshare .BKS files from the File Manager Directory
option.
In KeyPlan, printing now works.
Full backups now allow subsequent incremental backups to work
correctly.
In the Media Player, BACKSPACE with ENTER now pauses playback.
On the BrailleNote PK the joystick now works correctly.
In UK math in the calculator, spaces are now displayed correctly.
The PREVIOUS and NEXT thumb keys no longer give an error beep when
going
to
links in KeyWeb.
In KeyList, pressing BACKSPACE and ENTER no longer clears the Braille
display.
On the BrailleNote QT, when FUNCTION with S is used to change task, GPS
only appears when installed.
On the BrailleNote QT, the calculator now operates correctly after
directly
switching from a KeyWord Braille or BRF document.
On the BrailleNote QT, the battery level short cut READ with ESC now
works
while reading .BRF files in KeyBook.
On the BrailleNote QT, you no longer need to press READ with G to start
reading a .BRF file in KeyBook. You can just press 'G'.
On the BrailleNote QT, PLUS on the numeric pad now works.
Copying a database using the File Manager will no longer write protect
the
data file.
When exporting a document you can now create subdirectories at the
destination directory prompt.
When confirming the deletion of an email folder, literary Braille
folder
names are now spoken correctly. The confirmation prompt now appears on
the
correct sequence.
When writing an email, the exception that could occur when you delete
"to",
"cc" or "bcc" entries has been fixed.
Known Issues:
In some cases, you may experience a long response time or apparent
lock-up
of your system when reading Daisy books from Bookshare. This is more
prevalent in large books. We will continue to investigate and work to
resolve this issue. In the meantime, we wish to provide you with our
latest
improvements.
