I have a BrailleNote QT and for the most part, use the Querty keyboard
for Braille entry, except of course when entering text in Braille documents.
The spacebar fell off my Braille Note last week, I think partly due to
the placement of that card holder on the carry case, so today as I was
directing the choir, I was trying to operate it without the spacebar,
until I can ascertain whether putting a little glue on it would make the
warranty void. Anyway, it started operating very erratically, so that
only the eight keys a s d f j k l semicolon would work, but not
consistently to input letters, mostly for cursor movement, similar to
how a BT works. I kept having to type a Braille Z to exit to the keyword
menu and then a Braille E to get to the main menu, before being able to
re-enter my document again and hope it wouldn't keep happening. It
seemed to be triggered if, for example, during a search forward command
I keyed in a plus-sign or i-n-g character, something that must have sent
a conflicting message to the unit. During the Sunday morning service is
a lousy time to have to start trouble-shooting a computer, especially
because a press of the wrong thumb key, independent of the non-existent
space-bar, provoked a robotic proclamation of "speech on, braille off"
when I usually have speech turned off to avoid such interruptions.
I know this is a bizarre thing and I ask someone's patience to wade
through it and help, as I use the qt extensively and can't even imagine
how to solve this one.
