Hi Joseph and others.
I'm having trouble connecting my braillenote as a braille display.Do I
really need to download this keyboard hooks thing?
I have sellected the braille note as a device. I have sellected com 8
because my bluetooth software tells me that BN is trying to get sereal
port A which is asigned to com 8.
When I go in to jaws and sellect BrailleNote as the defalt braille
device, it says it is the defalt, but that there is NO ACTIVE Braille
display.
How can I make the BN the active braille display?

Thanks!
Rusty

I'm sending this message again. A detailed

In order to use your BrailleNote as a
wireless display, you'll need the following
requirements:
The PDI Hooks file;
Active braille display should be BrailleNote;
and correct com port number.
Step 1: Downloading the PDI Hooks (KeyBoard
Emulator file):
1. On your PC, go to HumanWare's website at
www.humanware.com.
2. Go to Search and press enter. At the
search edit field, enter Forms mode and type
"JAWS PC Keyboard Emulator."
3. At the document that appears, press enter
on KeySoft 7.0/7.2 page and press enter.
Find the link called "JAWS PC Keyboard
Emulator" and press enter.
4. When the file download dialog appears,
press o to open the zip file.
You have just downloaded the emulator files.
Step 2: installing and running PDI Hooks:
1. After you've downloaded this file, you'll
be placed in a folder structure. Press enter
on the folder that appears.
2. After you've press enter, you'll see four
files. Copy all files except the second zip
file (make sure that you open the Windows
Explorer again in order to do this
correctly). Copy the files to the following
location:
C:\Program Files\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\8.0
Paste the files onto this directory.
3. Now press Alt Tab to go back to the zip
file. There should be one more zip file.
Open this file. If the security dialog
appears, press enter on Open. After opening
this folder, there should be a single file.
Copy this file to the location presented
above.
4. Focus your cursor at the JAWS directory
and at the PDIHooks executable. Shutdown
JAWS with JAWS Key with Fbled. After JAWS
has shut down, press enter on the PDI Hooks
file. You should here a system beep letting
you know that the KB emulator is running.
Step 3: Configuring BrailleNote as a braille
display
1. Restart JAWS 8.0 (Press Windows r, and
type jaws8).
2. Go to JAWS program and select
Options/Braille. If BrailleNote is listed,
then you do not need to go further. If you
did not, follow the next set of instructions:
a. Go to Add Braille display button and
press enter.
b. At the components dialog, press b until
you hear "BrailleNote." If it is not checked,
press SPACE to check it. Press enter.
c. At the com port list, select the com port
which is assigned to the dongle (com5).
Press enter. After a brief pause, JAWS
should report that it is complete. Press
enter on Finish button.
d. At the braille dialog, press enter on OK.
You are done.
Step 4: Activating Bluetooth
1. On your BrailleNote, go to
Options/Connectivity/Bluetooth. If Bluetooth
is off, turn it on by say "Yes."
2. At the search for devices prompt, press
y. After a brief paause, BrailleNote should
say "List of Devices." Select your PC.
3. At the list of services, select
ActiveSync. This will fool Windows that you
are trying to connect using a known service.
4. At the pair and activate prompt, press y.
At the authentication code prompt, pause it
for second.
5. At this point, on your PC, press JAWS Key
plus F11 to access System Tray. Focus your
cursor on the icon that says, "Bluetooth on
(name)" where name is your PC.
6. Back on your BrailleNote, type a string
that you can remember and press enter. A
notification balloon appears to type the same
cone. On your PC, press enter at this point.
7. Press Alt Tab on your PC until you see
authentication code or similar. Type the
same code that you've typed on your
BrailleNote and press enter. BrailleNote
should say that it is paired and active.
Step 5: Using your BrailleNote as a display
1. On your BrailleNote, go to Main/Terminal.
At the terminal port, select Bluetooth. Do
not press enter.
2. On your PC, press JAWS Key plus F11.

Press TAB until you hear a prompt that says,
"Allow this device to connect to this
computer" or similar. Press SPACE to check
this box, and TAB until you hear OK. Press
enter. BrailleNote then says, "Braille
Terminal."
5. Restart JAWS (JAWS Key plus Fbled, enter
twice, Windows r, JAWS8). Brailleationnte

Press SPACE with i to toggle between
navigation and emulator mode.
For more help with KeyBoard Emulator, at the
emulator mode, press SPACE with H. When you
