Hi,
Hmmm, I don't think I said that DOR wouldn't cover the cost of a
BrailleNote. What I said was that that it would be a good idea for Krista to
ship the unit to Humanware so that they can check out the display to
determine if a transplant is feasible

Tom;
Why would not Doors cover for an M-power for Crista?
Crista, have you contacted the NFB for help. Let them know you need it
to function in school.
Doors, CAP for students or the NFB should be able to help you. As
someone said today, you might even be able to get a demo unit if all
else does not work. Do not give up. I would talk to HW and see if they
would look over the unit for free or for a small amout. Explain your
situation. Don't just depend on the word of one person. He could be
wrong and it might be something small that could solve your problem.
Some times just a battery can cause a lot of problems.
Good luck.

Hi Krista,
You wrote:
Because my school district is paying for me to attend Perkins, and
because
they don't have the money in the budget, for the past six months they've
been blatantly refusing to buy a new unit. The old one isn't even worth
reconditioning and transplanting, because the Braille display wouldn't
be of
any real use being that it's not functional, according to my technology
instructor.
I may be out of line here, but I doubt it. Frankly, I don't think that
your
technology instructor can make that determination. It could be that back
panels on the unit's main board have failed, rendering the Braille
display
unusable. It's my understanding that before Humanware proceeds with a
transplant, they test the display to see if it is really faulty. So, if
you
can, ship it up to Humanware and let them determine whether a transplant
is
feasible. .
