So far, I just haven't found anything I like better than my BrailleNote PK. And, in the last little while, I've been looking around to see if I could, too.
I do have a cell phone/PDA running Mobile Speak Pocket; and, although I do like to take it with me, for the phone, of course, but also to be able to carry my info around in such a small device. However, there is no built in Braille with the device, and I just haven't gotten used to using my PK as a Braille device for the PDA. Oh, it does work, as I have tried it, but the PK is pretty small itself, as well as having that familiar KeySoft user interface. Thus, I kind of figure I have the best of both worlds, off the shelf access when I need/want it, as well as the comfort and convenience of the BNPK. As for the future of the BrailleNote, well who knows. But, if this list and the new redesigned HumanWare web site are any indications, HW doesn't seem to be putting as much emphasis on the BN as before. And, that message from Maurice a couple of weeks ago regarding the fix for some of the folks who have to change their email settings, as well as the later fixing of the Microsoft Word issues, didn't make it clear if these were going to be part of KeySoft 8.0 or separate patches. There are a number of ways in which a blind person can switch to the use of a smaller device, however, none of those small devices are going to have Braille. For those who want to use electronic refreshable Braille displays, the proprietary devices are the only way to go. This is unfortunate, because for many on this list, Braille is what we want. However, if you don't know Braille, or it is not a high priority, there are off the shelf solutions that may well meet many peoples needs. ___ Replies to this message will go directly to the sender.
