In the past week I have taken my Braillenote through the airports in San Jose,
Denver, and Aspen. No questions asked. In all cases I put Braillenote in a
bin to go through the scanner.

I have had similar experiences to what Peggy described. This has happened when
I didn't take my Braille display or Braillenote out of my backpack when
sending it through the scanner. The security folks have then removed the
Braille device, run my backpack through without it, and taken the Braille
device off to be checked for traces of explosives.
