Hello all, I bring this to your attention since it could affect whether the Brailenote family of products can hear streaming audio or not. I realize streaming music on the internet is being challenged but as long as it is available, we certainly should have access to it. In recent months, I've discovered sites which have Adobe Flash Player. I saw something about this on the Adobe site when downloading the 8.0 version of the Adobe reader. I have since run into two sites which aren't accessible since they now have the Adobe Flash player, music of your life dot com and Pandora dot com. This is what I wrote on another list. I made reference to Aaron who works for GW Micro but this affects JFW and other screen readers as well. Here is what I wrote.
It is amazing to me if I find that something is happening out in Siber Space I usually don't find but one occurrence of the happening depending on what it is! Some time back I asked and complained about Adobe Flash Player on the Music of your life dot com site. I of course still am upset about the fact I can no longer listen to this site or read any information on the site without having Adobe Flash Player. For me, it has rendered this site as inaccessible. We all know about Adobe Reader. Yes, it can work on text documents but there is still so much that can't be read despite the accessibility features in that software. Adobe hasn't been all that responsive to those of us as I see it when it came to accessibility. They had to be dragged in kicking and screaming! Now they are in the player business and that player isn't accessible for many of us! I believe Aaron told me that trying to access Music of your life dot com would be an accessible nightmare in so many words. He didn't put it that way but that is how I understood what he basically said. I have since discovered Adobe Flash Player on the Pandora dot com site. I came on to search some artists and tunes to see if I could track down a few songs I wanted to know more about! As I was about to search the site, I heard something about my needing to update the Adobe Flash Player in order to get the most out of their site! I knew right then and there I couldn't hear any music on it! At this time, I can still read text on their site! How long I'll be able to do so is anyone's guess! I'm wondering whether Window Eyes works on Pandora.com? If this Adobe Reader really takes hold, how long will it be till a Braille note will be out of the picture because Adobe player isn't accessible? This also holds true for Window Eyes I'm certain! I went to their blog and on that blog is a place for posting comments. I told them what they could do with their Adobe flash player in so many words. You can go to these comments on their blog to read what I wrote. If there is a place for comments on a given site, I'd encourage any of you to post a comment showing your distaine for this dreadful Adobe Flash Player! Maybe if enough of us would post on such blogs, somebody might get the message and come up with a suitable alternative we can use. They can keep their adobe if they wish but at least there would be an alternative. Please feel free to write me if you can use Pandora or you find it as I have found it to be, totally unusable!
