Hi Alex,
Give your teacher this web address: www.zamzar.com. He can send
docx
documents through the converter on this website, and it will be
sent back to him in
whichever filetype he chooses. I've attached a copy of the
directions on how to
submit .docx files to this site for conversion below. Note, that
the
directions, are designed for people using screenreaders, however,
if he is fully
sighted, he'll be able to figure out how to use the site, by
looking at it. Here
are the directions to convert .docx files:
1 Go to www.zamzar.com
2 Press enter on the edit box in the middle of the page. This
edit box, is
called browse, however you might have a hard time distingwishing
this. As a
hint, go to the top of the page, arrow down the page, until you
hear your
screenreader say, "Up to 100mb in size." Directly below this
statement, is the edit
box you'll need. Place the cursor on the edit box, and Press
enter.
3 After you've done this, you might hear your computer say,
either "Filename
choose file," or it just may say browse. At this point, (if
you're a
window-eyes user, press shift tab. This will bring up your my
documents folder. If
the file you're converting is not in the my documents folder,
then tab until you
get to a combo box called look in. Arrow up and down through the
list, until
you hear the name of the folder and/or drive where the file was
saved. Upon
finding the folder and/or drive where the file is saved, shift
tab back to the
listbox, and arrow up and down until you find the file you want
to convert. to
make things easier, you can also try pressing the letter that the
name of the
file to which you want to convert begins with, or arrow up and
down
repeatedly, until you hear the name of the file announced.
4 Now, press tab three times to get to the open button. Press
this button,
and you'll be taken to another dialog box, where you can choose
which file type
you'd like the .docx file to be translated into.
Press tab, until you come to a combo box which contains a list of
file types.
5 Select the file type to which you'd like the docx
file to be
translated into. there are fifty-eight choices.
6 Now tab to the next field, which is the place where you enter
your email
address. Note, the fieldname, is not spoken, but if you turn the
(msaa mode
back on and press up arrow once, you will see that it is indeed
the field for an
email address. Once you've confirmed that your on the right
field, press down
arrow to go back to where you were, and press enter, to turn MSAA
mode off
again. Now, type the email address, where you'd like your
document to be sent
after it's been converted.
7 Now, tab twice to get to the convert button and press it, and
your document
will be on its way. The service will then email the translated
document back
to you as a file attachment, within a matter of minutes. Then,
all you'll
need to do, is simply download the file attachment like you
normally would with
any other attachment, and save it anywhere you choose. N you can
open your
document in word. This service by the way, is totally free to
use. They can
translate documents into either of the following file types:
1 .csv
2 .doc
3 .html
4 .odp
5 .ods
6 .odt
7 .pdf
8 .rtf
9 .txt
10 .wps
11 .wpaid
12 .aac
13 .ac3
14. flac
15 .m4a
16 .mmf
17 .mp3
18 .ogg
19 .ra
20 .ram
21 .wav
22 .wma
23 .xml
24 .ps
25 .ppt
There are a lot of other file types that they support such as
video files.
I'm not sure if this site will work on the bn or the bn or not,
But, you can
play around with it, and explore it at your leasure. Have a nice
day.
