To insert the flat battery, find where the lower portion of the back panel, the larger portion of the back cover, meets with the upper portion of the back cover up by the Top of the unit. Gently press down on the arrows on the upper part of the lower portion of the back cover by where it meets the top part of the back panel and slide the whole lower back panel downward, towards you. The cover slides off and exposes the battery compartment. The battery only fits into its socket the correct way, so if it doesn't want to go in the way you are trying it, try it upside down or backwards! When you get it right way around, it will gracefully seat itself in its socket. The shiny side of the battery with the numbers printed on it will be facing up, towards where the back cover would be if it were on the unit, rather than down, towards the circuit board. I had to get the lady in the rental office of my building to get the battery compartment cover off and seat the battery. After installing the battery, gently slide the back cover back on and ensure it is properly latched. Then charge the Stream for Four solid hours or as I did, overnight as a new rechargeable battery just loves soaking up power from a wall outlet. After you have charged the unit, turn it on by pressing and holding the button on the left side of the unit at the very top. The headphone jack is the top jack on the right-hand side. The ac power jack is on the top of the machine at the right-hand side. The lower jack on the right-hand side is the microphone jack. Press and hold the 1 key for the help facility.
