You could emphasize words or phrases using the underscore symbol which is a
shift hyphen on a QT keyboard and dots 4,6 or 4,5,6 on a BT, if you are
using grade 2 or grade 0 USA braille.
You could also use placemarkers in the documents, but you can only put 26
markers in a document.

Ari, The BrailleNote does have a way to write in different languages.
I know it can write in German, but don't think it has capacity for
Afrikaans or any of the native languages. You'd have to talk to
Humanware about their language modules.
As for marking your notes in different ways to indicate importance,
this is an excellent question. You can underling things with the BN,
but the underline symbol only shows up when you use the "edit" mode of
braille reading. You could do that, but here's a thought for you.
Why not use a symbol to parenthesize your notes. For example, if you
wanted to mark passages that are very important, put five stars at the
beginning of these passages and five stars at the end. For passages
which are of middle importance put five dashes on either side of the
passage. You could use any symbol you liked, but you get the idea.
This would make copying of passages easier because you would use the
find feature to find you given passage, then mark that passage
including the parenthetical markings. You could even change those
markings if you had copied or changed or moved a passage.
