From the comments Maurice Sloane sent you, it appears he is able
to select German Grade 1.5 on his BrailleNote.
Perhaps you should try contacting Humanware Europe at their
offices in the UK, explain the situation and your need for
extremely remediation of the problems you are having and ask if
they can perhaps lend you one of their units to try and if it
solves your French and German problems, arrange for your present
unit to be repaired and returned to you forthwith?
Will save you having to learn to use a PacMate and from what
people have told me, that unit is not perfect either!
