Paul, 

You can enable/disable the recording tone by doing the following:  
1. From the Main Menu 
2. M for Media Menu 
3. S for Media Set-Up Menu 
4. R for Recording Options Set-Up list 
5. Space until you get to, "Enable recording tone?"  
Press Y for Yes or N for No. 
Note: Instead of the recording tone, the Braille display will show
"recording" or "recording stopped" depending on the function.
