(Sorry if this was posted twice. I did not see a copy come through.) Maurice,
AS the person who is in charge of recommending devices for our clients in Oregon; I am seriously disappointed in this announcement. 1. No mention of improving support for Word documents. For those who seem to think many features are directed at students, not improving the ability of the BrailleNote to deal with complex word documents makes the BrailleNote useless for most students today. 2. The lack of support for NLS books is another serious issue. The Braille Plus, from American Printing House and the Icon, from Levelstar, have supported NLS books for about a year, if not longer. They also support Word documents amazingly well. 3. Even though updating the Windows version being used is a major under taking, Keysoft 8 is far enough overdue that including an update to the operating system should have been done by now. The Braille Sense Plus and Voice Sense and the previously mentioned Braille Plus and Icon all have built in wireless and can handle WPA wireless security. Not to mention that the Braille Sense Plus has 8 GB of built-in memory, the Voice Sense 1 GB and the Braille Plus and Icons a 40 GB hard drive. What part of being completely left behind doesn't Humanware get? I have been a strong supporter of the BrailleNote family of products. I am afraid that is likely to change. The changes from 7.2 to 7.5 were not worth the cost of an upgrade. As someone else pointed out, the Bookshare access should have been provided as a free patch. So, in my mind, version 8, at this point, does not sound like it is worth it, given that we already paid for an upgrade that was nothing more than some bug fixes.
