Nicole, I say this gently. If someone's BN crashed on a Friday
evening, and it was an emergency that it run, would you want to
wait until Monday to try to get Tech Support? In the beginning of
7.5, that was a definite recommendation. I know you're a capable
user, and as long as you take your cards out, you will not mess
up machine. If you do it wrong, it will come back to Main Menu,
and if you don't hear that the clock needs setting, you'll know
it was incorrect. For those who are afraid to do something
without permission of Humanware, I say, don't do it. People need
to follow their own capabilities. And no, I'm not being harsh
with your question. I just know what happens when the machine
goes down on a weekend, and I know how long one can wait to get
tech support.
Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the
law of Christ.

Didn't you ever read the warning in the appendix of the manual

explicitly says not to do a service reset unless under hw staff

With my hard drive, I just need to do that. Ok, try a 456 reset,
and then a
service, and what you do is incert the usb cable just before the
bn kicks

Easy fix. Pop the hard drive in the bn, then do a simple reset
with no
keys held down, and it will appear in the list of drives.

hard drive. I reformatted it to fat32. I have both USB
conectors in
the USB hub. My bn recognizes other things in the hub, but not

Hi, you can't use any external USB drives on the PK because it
doesn't have a USB port for these things. However if you want
to
backup your flash drive you can do this to a CF card. I do this
with
both my PK and MPower and I'm not sure what size the card is but
I
can backup both flash drives to this one card. I just put them
in
differant foulders and name them PK backup and MPower backup.

Actually, from my research, when USB devices are first connected
to
a host (such as BrailleNote), it will start out with 100
milliamps.
When the host says to switch to higher power, then it will
switch to
maximum power output
- 500 milliamps. A USB hub, regardless of number ports, is
supposed
to provide a total of 500 milliamps. For instance, a four-port
UsB
hub can use 100 milliamps to power itself, plus 4X100 milliamps
for
devices connected to it.
I think in theory, USB hubs with devices attached will work with
BrailleNote. Most come with UsB plus an aC adapter for power.

Not a hub, but an external drive? Sure! Mine is a 320gb Seagate
that
works perfectly. If you have a hub it should work. Both ports
can
put out 500 milliamps between them, but, as I understand it, one
port could put out 500 and the other can be inactive, or one can
give 200 and the other 300, and so on (I assume this from the
wording of the manual). Therefore, the one working port on your
machine should give you the power required, and all you need is
the
hub to give you both ports (data and power). Hope that makes
sense!
