As for types of resets and when to perform them, consult the user
guide for
brief explanations. Here are the details on each reset:
* Warm Reset (sometimes known as soft reset; Reset button):
Restarts
BrailleNote. If the BN locks up or if an installation program
asks to
restart KeySoft, this one is the one to use.
* ROM image-based restart (Reset with dots 1-2-3/FDS): Not that
useful under
KeySoft 60 (PK) or later, but it was a huge benefit under KeySoft
5.1 or
earlier. Basically, this reset runs KeySoft without any
extensions
(especially dictionary). This is useful for uninstalling a
program (if the
regular uninstaller does not work), modifying system files and
reseting BN
to factory defaults (deleting keysoft.ksd under Flash
Disk\Dictionaries
folder) and so forth (replacing system sounds and deleting
keysoft.ksd can
be done under normal mode, but I advise that you do these things
if
necessary).
* Reinitialization (or software-based hard reset; Reset with dots
4-5-6/JKL): Reinitializes BrailleNote's KeySoft System Disk; in
KeySoft 5.1
or earlier, it did what is equivalent to Service Reset (see
below). With
this reset, internet temporary files are delete, as well as any
user added
files from KeySoft system disk will be gone.
* Service Reset (mPower only; Hardware-based hard reset; Reset
with Record
button): This is the one that youshouldn't perform under normal
circumstances (perform this if nothing or any other resets does
not work).
When this reset is invoked, it resets the date and time (internal
clock),
performs same things as Reset with dots 4-5-6/JKL and so forth.
Notes:
* KeySoft 5.1 and under's equivalent to Service Reset is Reset
with dots
4-5-6/JKL.
* Under PK, you can turn off and on the unit (based on hardware)
by pressing
C1 and C4 (the leftmost and rightmost control keys).
* Service Reset is only available on the mPower.
* As for how KeySoft 5.1 and under stores system files, I'll
reserve this
question as a separate PBWorks article (by the way, I am working
on a new,
redesigned PBWorks codenamed "Vista"; detailed will be announced
as time
goes by).

How do you know what reset to use when? And, is there a reset
that one should never do while in a particular application?
