Hi, Carol and all,
I'm wondering why some people want to complain about something new
when they haven't even worked with it yet! I guess it's becaused we
don't like to change and our stuff costs so much.
I am excited about the coming new Apex. I agree with Carol here:
lack of a CF port is a minor nuisance. I'll take the new unit with
its much lighter weight, huge memory increase, user replaceable
batteries, no more recalibration, recognition of SD cards up to 32
gigs, added controls, more USB, curent underlying operatging system,
built in wi-fi, thernet port, etc. As I consider all that, putting a
CF card reader in my bag is justg fine with me. I haved lots of
cards and intend to use them. This may be a minor nuisance, but
people, look at all you're getting in the new Apex! I haven't seen
it either, but I have put myself in line for one. I can hardly wait!
Please, everyone, let's put all this in perspective. The gains look
tremendous; the minuses are truly minor indeed.
Let's get busy helping one another now instead of complakining.

Now, how long that will be I can't say, but perhaps this was one of
the reasons they didn't include a CF.
To be honest, I don't think it's any big deal. If you really don't
want to buy a card reader or carry one with you, there's always a
thumb (pen) drive and you can get some that you wear around your
neck, so there's still plenty of scope!
BTW: I was one of the people who really thought Humanware had
forgotten us but believe this is really another step forward and,
as long as big improvements are seen in the next couple of years in
the software and what we can achieve, I'll be more than happy! <Smiles>

The failure of the Apex to include a compactflash card
slot makes it a poor choice for a notetaker in my books. Rather
than improve, there has been a regression. Now I
will be forced to buy a card reader so I can continue to
read materials saved on a compact flash card.
Makes me wonder: Are compactflash cards NO LONGER being
produced? Perhaps I am mistaking, but I think I have
heard that compactflash cards are now available up to
64GB or am I just day dreaming?
I know that some will say that the compactflash card
reader is so small and WILL NOT TAKE UP too much space
anywhere. Duh! Excuse me, when it was a integrated into
the product previously with the MPower and the Classic,
wasn't that more compact and a lot easier to schlepp
around?
As always, indulgence in false pretense makes better
sense as opposed to truly making adaptive equipment a
more useful tool for the customer; let's just give them
something to MAKE THEM JUMP UP AND DOWN a weebit, charge
the same outrageous prices, and, when the ovation wears
out, we will just MAKE ANOTHER PRODUCT and reintroduce
the compactflash card again. Interesting the way the
mind of adaptive equipment developers seem to work!!
