What I said was true as far as I knew at the time. Surprise! This
morning I couldn't go on the Internet or get e-mail. Called tech support
and Greg took my Apex back to bare bones, which of course wiped out all my
data. We re-entered my connection configuration and e-mail account and I
could get e-mail and go on the Internet. I thought my problems were solved,
but after copying files that tech support said would be safe to copy, I was
back with the same problem. Greg thought it was something corrupt in my
backup, since he got it working, but when we took it back to bare bones
again, he couldn't get it to work either. He thinks it's something in
the connection module, (at least that's as close as I can come to what he
said). He was very nice and did his best, but I'm definitely underwhelmed
by the Apex, and don't think it's ready for prime time yet. UPS is coming
and I'm getting another unit, so time will tell.

Subject: [Braillenote] Known issues with Apex...

Hi folks,

According to a user of Apex (Allison), we have some issues to deal with.
Some of them are:

. Upon entry to user guide and if one tries to access the Index,
Apex says, "end of index." When attempting to repair this by deleting ks.ndx
and resetting the unit, the file is gone (Reset does not help). Now Apex
says, "cannot find the file" when attempting to access the Index. Apparently
this is a known issue, according to Tech Support.

. When the unit is turned off with WiFi active, the next time you
turn on the unit and attempt to connect to the Internet, Apex will not
connect. Apparently when the unit is resumed from standby (turning on the
unit), the WiFi app will still think that it is using the connection used
before the unit was turned off. Apparently restarting WiFi (turning off WiFi
then turning it back on) fixes this problem. When the user contacted Tech
Support, the assistant was stunned.

That's all I found out - thanks Allison for giving us a heads up about Apex.
At least we know what to expect and find solutions to fixing this.

Also, I will not be able to view and post to this list for a while. The
earliest would be Christmas Day.

Cheers,

Joseph
