Hi folks,
I guess a compressed post is in order (in order to reserve list traffic and archive space). So, here are the answers for questions and possible questions about multitasking: * General: It is somewhat possible to multitask on your BrailleNote. The BrailleNote's underlying operating system allows that to happen. However, because of differences between mPower and others versus Apex, the true multitasking can only happen under mPower and Apex. For more information, read the posts about differences between mPower and Apex (should I post either a simple version, a tech version or both later today?). But for all practical purposes, you can indeed multitask to some extent. This depends on the following conditions: * Media apps: You can listen to media files (radio or media player) while you are doing anything else. * KeyChat: It is possible to have a chat conversation in the background while you are doing something else; when a chat arrives, KeyChat will inform you who sent the message and prompt you for options. * Web browsing: It is possible to have a web site open while you are doing something else; however, KeySoft will focus on what you are doing at hand - writing a document, sending and receiving email, etc.; when you return to KeyWeb, the focus will go to the same page you left except if you have exited to Main Menu (in that case, it will present "address" prompt). However, you cannot go anywhere in KeySoft while download is in progress. Those are the conditions. For things that apply to each of the KeySoft applications (I call them "modules"), here are the answers: * You can do anything in any application while any or all of the above conditions are true. This applies to all applications (possible complications may arise; see footnotes). * You cannot do anything else (except playing media files in the background) while you are sending and receiving emails. Same goes to when a download is in progress or if you are doing copy or moving operations are folders and files (including backup and restore). * If you do switch to another program while you were browsing a list of files and folders, you cannot return to File Manager (no shortcut except through Main Menu).
Footnotes:
* Under Book Rader, when you are reading a DAISY book while you are listening to media file or a have a web page opened, you'll find that DAISY navigation becomes slower than expected (mostly for mPowers). This is because DAISY books take up more memory (mostly due to size of the book thanks to extra formatting). * If you want to continue working while a chat message arrives, you can just say "no" to the chat prompt. * If you pause a media file while you were doing something else and then return to media player, KeySoft will ask you if you want to continue playing the media file. Not applicable to certain models (mostly Classic) prior to certain KeySoft versions. * If you were doing something then return to Main Menu, the next time you go to a particular program via its shortcut, you'll not return to same place you left (except media player and calculator; in case of media player, which will continue to play the file at hand; for calculator, you'll return to the calculation at hand comnless if you have cleared the display). If you do return to the program you left, you'll be prompted to select a file to open, address prompt or enter a menu.
Hope this answers few questions here...
Cheers,
Joseph
