I understand seeing the name for my configuration if, indeed, there is a 
network available that exactly matches the SSID in the configuration. What 
I don't understand is seeing the configuration name when the SSID's don't 
match.  Isn't it the SSID that tells the BrailleNote whether a network it 
has been configured for is available?

What happens when you scan for wireless networks?  If you are saying
that you see the name you used in your network configuration that you
added to your BrailleNote, this is a normal thing.
