Maybe send your batteries to battery plus. I did that with my Braille Lite.
It worked perfectly. That's just a thought.

Hi all,
I have had my Apex since February of this year. While the unit itself is fine, except for the software bugs, the case is far from fine, and
it really frustrates me.

1. The magnets used to close the top flap, which I appreciate very much in place of velcro, have come detached from their mounts and now slide around inside the case. Usually they will stay long enough for me to get the case closed, but sometimes one, two, or all three will slip out of place and require me to find them and maneuver them back
into position. I usually have to do this a couple times.

2. The way I almost always wear my Apex, and so the way I use it while I am wearing it, is by putting the strap over my right shoulder and letting the unit hang across me, at my left side. This allows me to leave it at my side while not in use, where it cannot get hurt if I run into something and where I can very easily use my left arm to shield it from potential harm. At the same time, it lets me quickly pull it into position in front of me to look something up or type something. With the Apex case, though, doing this often results in the left front corner of the Apex itself popping out of the left front corner of the case. I am extremely afraid that I will not catch this
one day and the whole thing will fall from its case and onto the
ground. The only way to partially avoid this is to hang the case around my neck, so that the weight is borne by both sides evenly.
However, this position is uncomfortable to walk in and, more
importantly, greatly increases the risk of the Apex hitting something
(such as an open door or a pole) that I miss with the cane.

I wrote this for two reasons: first, I wonder if I am alone in my case woes and if buying a new case would solve my problem, and second as a warning to others who may carry the Apex in the same way: keep an eye (or finger) on the front corners to make sure the unit is not coming
out of the case if the case is open.

Hi all,
This may have been covered before, but I couldn't find my answer in
the archives.

I just upgraded to an Apex from the MPower and I have it connected to
my computer and am running JAWS 11.0.1467.
If I change tasks while in terminal mode to check something in a file on the Apex, nine times out of ten the Apex will crash when I try to go back to terminal mode. I used to do this constantly with my MPower and never had this trouble. Is there a trick with the Apex that I need to know to keep from having to turn off JAWS, unplugging the USB cable, resetting the Apex, plugging the USB cable back in, going to
terminal mode and then reactivating JAWS?
Thanks for any help you can offer.
Betsy

Hi, Alex,

I understand that Executive Products makes an Apex case. I have
not seen it though. Based on their cases for the Vrstream, which
I have, I would guess there are features in their cases not in
the ones from Humanware and vice versa. Whatever differences
there may be may be of use to you.

Hi,

told
that it's a nice one. I'll have to check it out some day.

Hello Sam.

I don't know whether this applies, but, when I wanted to set up
alternative e-mail accounts, one of the questions I was asked by
the website software was that if I was using the same computer
for both addresses, I should uncheck one of the boxes where you
sign in. I cannot be more specific as it would be different
with different providers.

Ok,

I have tried ports 587 and 465 without any success. As I said he

Hi all,

I wonder if anyone has taken note of the details of the battery supplied with the Apex. I haven't personally been into the battery compartment to look and just wonder if anyone has details. I am getting the impression that Humanware has deliberately missed the full details of the battery from the manual so that we go to them for a replacement, but should we have to
and maybe pay a bit more that way?

I'd be very interested on thoughts on this matter.

Hi,
From what I remember:
* Type: Lithium Ion.
* Capacity: 2700 MA.
* Maximum cycles: around 300.
Unless HW has better info on this...

Hi all,

I've recently got to use Google Chat with BrailleNote and am quite enjoying myself. However, I only have two people on the list and have a couple of questions. The first is, how can I find more people to chat with?

The second question is not BN related (apologies) but I really would like to use this chat also to chat to deaf-blind friends and don't want to be tied to my BN so could do with using it on the PC. If there's any way, could you
write me privately, please?

Thanks.

Hello list,
I'm hoping to do some traveling mp to northern mid-Michigan
sometime before Christmas and for the most part the only way one
can connect to the internet is via a dial-up connection.
Does the apex work with any off-the-shelf USB connectable modem
for this purpose? If so where can I go to purchase such a thing?

Hi Amy,

Humanware sells a USB dial-up modem for the Apex. The cost is $95
plus shipping. Their part number is 06-8029.

I have heard that this modem must be ordered from Humanware, but I am not 100 percent sure about this. From what I have learned, the
modem is a Radicom and the model is V92MB-U-E.

   The company's website is:
http://www.radi.com/index.html

I have no first-hand knowledge about this modem, but I hope the above information is helpful to you. Let us know if you get one, and if
it works.

Hi, Everyone,

I have a long URL that I need to put into the Web address bar.
How do I do this? I can't find it in the manual, so far. I have
an Apex, BT 32, Keysoft 9, 02, Build 756.

Hello:

This can be a problem. I sometimes cut the entire
address to Keyword; Then erasing the line breaks.
And, then copy the improved address to Keyweb. You
can also do this in the Keyweb address menu;
arrowing through the address to the line breaks and
deleting them there.

Best of luck.
