Hi,
What wi-fi card is being recommended for MPowers these days? I have a
student who wants one and thought I'd ask here.
On the Apex, how much does the wi-fi adapter drain the battery? If I'm out
on the road, say, or out of range of any hot spots and my Apex battery
charge is low, will turning off the wi-fi prolong the battery life
substantially? What about the bluetooth adapter?
Thanks.
Tom

Tones will usually play, but in the web browser (which will be called
keyweb on the list) sometimes they will not play and you think the
unit has locked up. You also may experience the same bug I do, where
the unit will lock for a minute or two, then suddenly display
"linking" and load the page. Basically, when using keyweb, give it at
least two minutes before you figure it is frozen and hit reset.
There is no hotkey to toggle wifi. The fastest way is to hit space-o,
c, w, n. This takes you to options, then connectivity, then wireless,
then the n tells the wifi to turn off. Once you are used to this it is
rather fast, but nothing like having a hotkey would be. Also, if you
turn off the bn with wifi on, then turn it on within range of a
network you have saved as a connection configuration, it will connect
to that network automatically. To see what is going on, go to options,
connectivity, then press a for active connection details. If you get
"there is currently no active connection" then, well, there is no
active connection, meaning either wifi is off or it has not even
started to connect to a network. Otherwise you will see a list of info
including network name, status (either "no information available",
"connecting", or "connected"), a signal strength indicator (-37 is
great, -85 is horrible), and some other info. At the end of the list
is "test current connection", which lets you ping an address to see if
you can reach the internet, or even a local computer, without using
the browser (keyweb).
As a side note, from the main menu you can just press lower f (2 3 5)
to go into options, though space-o will work as well.

Hi,
Thanks for all the help with the gmail settings.
My Apex is working properly with sending and receiving email, and
connecting
to the web browser.
I would prefer to not leave the wi fi turned on unless I am using it, and
was wondering how best to quickly turn that on and off?
My other question is this: should I hear progress tones when the Apex is
first connecting to the web browser?
I heard tones when I was testing the send and receive in Key Mail.
However, when I connected to the offered humanware.com site to make sure
that was working I did not hear any tones.
I thought the unit had froze, but waited, and in fact, it loaded the page
just fine.
Many thanks.
Crystal
