Yes, this is true. The bn supports two modes of computer braille entry. The 6-dot mode, which most users will have set, uses just the normal six dots for entering text. However, there is an 8-dot mode, where the enter and backspace keys can be used with other keys to form symbols. For example, add dot 7 (backspace) to any letter to capitalize that letter. Backspace-c, in this mode, is capital c; to delete current sentence, the normal command for this keystroke, you must press backspace-space-c. The only exception to this is backspace by itself, which still deletes the previous character. Enter by itself, though, is a character, so to insert a new line you have to press space-enter to tell the bn that this is a command, not an 8-dot character.
There is a way of entering an 8-dot character in 6-dot mode which most users do not know about: just hit backspace-h and type your character. For the "at" sign, you would hit backspace-h, then dot 4 with backspace.
