Hi Joseph and others. This is mainly a challenge to the
programmers out there, and to Humanware if they are listening.
I'd like to know why there is not option to move folders in the
file manager. It may occur on the APEX -- I don't know because I
don't have one -- but it's definitely not on the MPower in
Keysoft 8. It's very annoying when I want to move a folder off
my flash disk and onto some other form of media like an SD card
because I have to first copy the folder and then erase it from
the flash disk. A move option, like there is for files, would
make much more sense if it is feasible.
What are the opinions of the experts out there?
Secondly, how difficult would it be to implement a Tasks feature
in the planner. I thought perhaps when one presses the command
for schedule, an option could come up "appointment or task?" and
then you could press a or t, depending on what is needed. There
would follow the same options that are there for appoinments.
Another way around it would be to create a "to do" program, but I
think the "task" option in the cllendar would be easier. Having
an alarm to promp you for tasks, as well as appoinments, could be
handy.
The other thing I would like to see is the option of "time to be
confirmed" in the "Time" field. For me, "all day" is vague and
inaccurate. It would make the BN a more professional notetaker
in my opinion.
Again, I'd be interested in enlightened opinions as to how
feasible these ideas are, as I have been trying to encourage
HumanWare to implement them for the last few years, as I have
footnotes in Keyword.
thanks.
Michele
PS My apologies if So have posted these ideas before.

Subject: [Braillenote] Few answers and opinions...
Hi,
Started changing layout (thanks to a suggestion from a list
member). Few
answers and opinions on recent posts:
* Playlists: To select an entire rolder and add it to a playlist
(a list of
media files), go to the folder where the files are located, then
at the
"list of files" prompt, press ENTER with DOTS 2-3-5-6 (whatever
the QT
command is), then press ENTER at the first track (I may need to
test this on
my Apex once it comes back).
* File compression: What was the file extension when you've
downloaded this
file? If it is a zip file, you can use Book Reader to unzip files
in the
compressed file. There used to be a trick where a .zip file
could be
uncompressed by changing its extension to .bks (not that
important anymore
since KeySoft supports .zip files for unzipping; for Alex: You
know the
latest trick on the mPower, right?).
* Counting characters: Previously, one could use File Information
command
(SPACE with I when a file name is displayed) to get the character
count.
Since KeySoft 6.2 (or maybe 7.0), this info reflects standard
practices of
mainstream operating systems - reports file sizes using SI
prefixes such as
kilo, mega, giga and so forth. If you want me to, I can write a
small
program to count number of characters in a text file (not on
KeyWord files,
as it uses specialized formatting code); if implemented, it'll
take me a few
days to do it. For programmers: The trick is using file input
stream, then
counting the size of the incoming string and adding it to the
char counter
(I'll send you a pseudo C++ code to programmers later).
* Pronto: Essentially, we do have a Pronto already - BrailleNote
PK's
hardware specs is merely HW's rebranding of Baum Pronto 18 V2.
* HumanWare's involvement: Personally, I understand both sides of
this
issue. I do know the frustrations that HW staff are not
monitoring this list
often these days; but as a programming student myself (who plans
to enter
assistive tech industry later), the absence of HW's presence (at
least
recent ones) is understandable. I do hope that the company would
be more
involved on lists like this. But because of current nature of
the list
(members self-moderating the list discussions), HW may believe
that they can
just leave it to the users to answer typical questions on
BrailleNote.
However, there are times when the company should be involved,
namely for
answering more detailed questions, boosting user confidence and
so forth. On
the other hand, the staff's schedule and product development
means hW staff
does not have enough time to answer all questions (like we had
until
recently). But as it has been noted, HW does respond (at least
indirectly)
to our questions and concerns. Thus, I'd like to personally
suggest that we
keep the list as is, but would like to suggest somewhat of a
better
involvement from HW staff to at least let us know our
suggestions, problems
and questions has been dealt with. Thanks.
Cheers,
Joseph
