Good Day:

Here are a couple more bugs I have found in experimentation. For the sake of convenience and consistency, the same format will be used as is seen in the original message.

* Multi-lingual capability still does not work well with the Apex. Firstly, if using KeyNote gold, when one switches speech to any other language than English, the speech raises in pitch and slows down quite noticeably. If one attempts to write an email with a mixture of English and another language, the sections containing the non-English language come out as pure gibberish. Also, strange deletions occur in documents containing multiple languages.

* It appears that the wireless manager has a problem with long encryption keys. If trying to connect with a network with an encryption key of a remarkable length (say, sixty-three characters), the BrailleNote will not connect. After some extensive testing, it has been found that shortening the key allows the apex to connect. Perhaps this indicates a certain time-out feature in the wireless connection? I really don't know, having only studied AP computer science a couple of years ago.

* The book reader behaves strangely if attempting to read a text DAISY book with the braille display's mode for displaying new lines set to a setting other than the "linear braille format" setting. Oddly, this only happens with certain books. While some books will work perfectly fine, others are unreadable with braille upon being opened, showing a long line of new-line indicators. Also, if any nonlinear format is set for indicating new lines, the speech in these unreadable book stutters practically at every word. The only way to read these books is, unfortunately, with speech and a linear braille format for indicating new braille lines. Note that this testing has only been done with BookShare books. This offers, of course, the alternative of downloading the books in plain braille format, but there are a number of cases in which it would be useful to be able to take full advantage of the navigation features offered by the DAISY format.

* Editing tables in Microsoft word documents is rather tricky. If one changes the contents of the cells in a row and then proceeds to save the document, the table, excepting the first few rows, is completely deleted.

It is hoped that this was found somewhat useful.

Subject: [Braillenote] List of current bugs in KeySoft 9.1.1031 for Apex

Hi folks,

Below is a summary of current bugs in KeySoft 9.1.1031 for the
Apex:
* Wireless connection: Frequent drops in wireless connection
(partially solved by recreating the offending connection
configuration).
* Find and replace: If you attempt to find and replace a
punctuation, it will not work; also, if you find a string which
was used for replacing another string, then it'll place language
indicator - the indicator cannot be removed.
* Unicode key (macro) assignment: If you attempt to assign a
macro to a unicode character and if you happen to use "Custom
USA" or similar computer table, KeySoft throws memory access
exception.
* User guide: No word on reading or navigating tables in
Microsoft Word file nor command set for navigating a table in
word documents.
* Website passwords: If you've used a password to log onto a
site, KeyWeb deletes this information next time the unit is warm
booted.
* File download: No message on percentage progress since it uses
a separate engine for this purpose.
* File zipping/unzipping: No announcement on number of
files/folders zipped or unzipped.
* Upgrade file corruption: When downloading the upgrade (hwi)
file using an Apex, the file might become corrupted, resulting in
errors during upgrade installation. It does not affect license
(hwl) files.

Few suggestions for HW for a possible maintenance release:
* Fixed find and replace to catch punctuation and language
indicator problem.
* Possible reinstatement of percentage messages during file
downboad from the Internet.
* Announcement on number of files during file compression.
* Implementation of IPV6 address input and output routine (to fix
concerns raised by Sabbahattin; the current IP address format of
number.number.number.number is about to be exhausted).
At least for now. We hope to hear HW's response to this list.

Cheers,
Joseph
