Hi folks, Since one lister mentioned about Support Info Mode and since there are conflicting words on some commands, I'd like to take this time to clarify some differences between mPower and Apex in terms of that mode: * Battery: mPower uses 1650 Ma Nickel Metal Hydride battery (which, I heard is just some batteries connected together). As sucyh, it requires special attention to calibration. Apex uses 2700 Ma Lithium Ion battery which, although not requiring a lot of calibration, is prone to loss of capacity over time after a number of charging/discharging activities. * Commands: Apex does not contain any battery diagnostics commands such as temperature (T); however, the power status item from Options Menu is kept. As such, the following commands are not availible on the Apex: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, I, J, K, M, P, R, S*, T, V, W, Y and Z. (S is a special case, since it is now used for formatting SD cards.) * New commands under Apex: The new commands under Apex are as follows: S (Format SD card), BACKSPACE with R (CTRL+Read+R for restoring default system files for Flash Disk) and BACKSPACE with ER sign (CTRL+Read+E for Factory Restore and Flash Disk Format). As noted a number of times: DO NOT PERFORM THE LAST TWO COMMANDS WITHOUT SUPERVISION FROM HumanWare STAFF!!!!! I won't go into what happens on both commands (particularly the last one), as the list archives gives us a number of testimonies.
Few notes on Apex battery: * Battery gauge does exist on Apex's battery. * Because it's a custom design, you need to order it from HW. * The shutdown voltage is around 3.35 plus-or-minus 0.005 volts. * In some cases, users reported sharp changes in battery reading. This is in part due to misunderstood battery meter reading from software. Usually, the higher number is correct, as evidenced by the fact that the battery reading stays at around 11 or 5% and one can still use the BN for a long time without AC adapter. Few notes on mPower battery: * Since it is made of different chemical and technology, mPower's battery requires regular calibration (about once a month) to keep the gauge accurate. * Like any battery, mPower's battery capacity reduces and eventually needs replacing (about 18 months). * When you see that the battery is not being charged despite receiving power from wall outlet, check to see if the battery temperature is above 35 Degrees Celcius (95 Dg F). Disconnect the AC adapter for about ten to thirty minutes to allow the battery temperature to drop, then charge it. Hope this helps.
